GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Only candidates whose residential address is in Iowa will be considered for this position.
Though classes take place online, the instructor must be able to regularly travel to a Kirkwood location (Coralville and/or Cedar Rapids) to participate in registration, orientation, and meetings.
Under limited supervision, the instructor is responsible for teaching ESL courses to students enrolled in Kirkwood's Secondary Programs. Instruction will take place online (via Zoom), though there might be opportunities to teach in Coralville or Cedar Rapids if there are openings at those locations. Though classes take place online, the instructor must be able to regularly travel to a Kirkwood location (Coralville and/or Cedar Rapids) to participate in registration, orientation, and meetings. The instructor also assists students in transitioning from ESL courses to Kirkwood related work training and higher education opportunities in collaboration with other Kirkwood staff. Classes are held Monday through Thursday. The session dates include: August 28 to Oct 12, Oct. 23 to Dec. 14, Jan.16 to Feb. 29, March 18 to May 2, May 6 to May 30. Morning classes are held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM or 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM. Evening classes are held from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, but currently there are no classes in the evening in Cedar Rapids. Currently there are 2 openings for evening classes (6:30 PM to 8:30 PM). The total hours per week for one class equates to 11.25 hours, with extra hours being available for team meetings, special projects, and professional development.
